Shark Fins by Samantha Sena

rhinocrashcon

From mermaids’ purses,

Like sunken treasure in the deep cavernous black

From silken sinuous skin

Beautiful as it gleams from Mariana’s Crack

From teeth like talons

Razor sharp knives set in soft pink insides

From bright blue aquamarine gallons

Disembodied molecules of colorful plastic pieces floating

From gentle lapping waves,

Like butterfly kiss currents

From fishy flesh that we crave,

A liquid thicker than water like juice on my tongue

From loud silence

and the resonant rhythms of booming whale frequencies

From thicker than water,

The color red, the taste of a delicious meal

From pain and the loss of fins, rotting flesh,

unforgiven bodies on beached sand

That great big ocean,

The crying sky,

A plastic oceanic tide,

The beauty and the destruction

That,

is where I am from
